DAY 4 (page 1 of 2): Tuesday, August 9, 2016

"LET"S GO!!" It's time to get in the water.

Welcome back to our sixteenth consecutive year of Kayaking for Cancer!

I feel so fortunate to have been invited on this journey, and welcomed into this family of paddlers.
It's the end of day 4 and I couldn't feel any more joy about what I've embarked on. When I signed up for this event I was expecting a fun week of paddling and camping and adventure in the summer time, backed by a very important cause. What I didn't realize was how much more this journey is.
This journey is family. It is profound emotion, revelations, laughter, and tears. We come together from all walks of life to support a long standing and important battle, and we do it in such a way that we can grow together while we make new friends and memories to last a lifetime.
In my short life I've been so fortunate, and have not been directly affected by this disease, but it affects each and every one of us in a different way, and each morning I take some time on the water to remember those we've lost, and think of those who have battled and won. My favorite time each day is these mornings. We are refreshed and in high spirits, and we set out filled with optimism for the day to come. The water sparkles in the early morning sun as we paddle in formation to begin the next leg of our adventure.
As I said, I feel so fortunate to have been invited on this journey. I can't wait to see what the next four days has in store for us, and I hope to continue with this family until our battle is won.
