DAY 6: Thursday, August 11, 2022
It was a sunny but windy day on the water as the kayakers paddled from Merrickville to Pirate Cove Marina. Two days left to go until they paddle into Ottawa!
Also, today we received exciting news and send our congratulations to Jenna and Trevor on the birth of baby Edward! Edward is named after Jenna's dad Rip, who the kayakers paddled in memory of today.
Reflection – Day 6 of Kayaking for Cancer Journey
by Jason and Aiden
Cancer seems to have touched us all, either through family, friends, loved ones or personally. My nephew is a cancer survivor and a few years ago my mom passed away after a brave battle withing lung cancer. After she passed I wanted to do something to honor her memory so I connected with the K4C group and joined in to paddle the Rideau.
I had a wonderful experience and met amazing people as well as paddlers who have survived cancer and those honoring loved ones lost to the disease. The group promotes a positive message to never forget the ones we've lost and to recognize those still fighting.
This is my second year paddling and this year my 14 year old son joined the group and had a wonderful life changing experience. He too had the opportunity to honor the memory of his grandmother by completing a challenging paddle over 8 days. All of the paddlers and ground crew were amazing and worked so hard to organize the event every year. With our continued efforts and community support we can find a cure.
