DAY 2 - Journal Entry:
Sunday, August
8, 2004
by
Micheline Dionne, Ground Crew & Kevin Dionne,
K4C Team Leader
Our first morning was a cool
one. Fortunately, we had hot coffee and oatmeal
to warm us up. Most of us were up by 6:30 a.m.,
and the late risers were awakened by Paparon's
"rooster call" at 7:00. Paddlers were
in the water by 9:00 a.m. and arrived at Seeley's
Bay for lunch by noon hour.
Kayakers set out from Seeley's
Bay energized from a wonderful lunch. The threat
of rain was in the air as the first kayak hit
the water. All participants arrived for the lunch
with one decorated kayak -- balloons adorned the
kayak of first-time participant George Tsarouhas,
who celebrated his 29th birthday today.
The kayakers enjoyed a scenic
adventure, portaging Jones Falls and arriving
at their overnight destination Davis Locks around
5:00 p.m. As the kayakers approached the last
lock of the day, the ground crew cheered them
on.
The evening turned out beautiful.
The ground crew had all the kayakers' tents up
and supplies unloaded. As the kayakers unwinded,
fajitas were prepared by Ann Dionne and company.
With one last "Happy Birthday" and cake
for George, and a few nightcaps, the K4C team
ended the second day.
