DAY 8 (page 1 of 4): Saturday, August 16, 2003

8:33 am
- Kayakers are stirring, getting their boats ready.

Well, this is it! The final day of our trek which will culminate with our arrival in Ottawa this afternoon. It's amazing how fast this week has flown by!

The weather is absolutely perfect today -- it's a warm 24C and the sun is shining. We couldn't ask for more!

Everybody was up around 7 am and breakfasted on what's left in the food bins -- a few shreddies, coffee, hot chocolate and white bread with pb & jam. There were a few kinks to stretch out this morning -- the ground at this lock station isn't all that level to sleep on. One person compared it to sleeping on a potato field and I'd have to agree!

At breakfast, Kurt and Lynn asked everybody to write down their name, town and why they're kayaking for cancer. It's really touching to read the responses.
