The Rideau Canal is a chain of lakes, rivers and canal cuts. It was conceived in the wake of the war of 1812, and it was to be a war time supply route to Kingston and the Great Lakes.
Completed in 1832, the Rideau Canal was one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th. century. In 2007 the Rideau Canal was designated as a World Heritage Site.
