The kayakers will be paddling the full length of the Rideau Canal between Kingston and Ottawa. The Rideau Canal is a chain of lakes, rivers and canal cuts. It was conceived following the war of 1812, to be a war time supply route to Kingston and the Great Lakes. Completed in1832, the Rideau Canal was one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th century. In 2007, the Rideau Canal was designated as a World Heritage Site.
